When I first got to Nashville I had barely written a song. And if you put a guitar in my hand, I could hardly play a couple chords. But I locked myself in a room with a guitar that first summer and started to force myself to play and write songs. The songs were far from good. In fact, I’d be embarrassed for you to hear most of them. But I guess they did serve a purpose. I started to get more and more comfortable playing the guitar and eventually started to collaborate with other young songwriters and friends.
I don't know exactly how it happened but eventually it just clicked. Songwriting started to make more and more sense! I was actually getting some pretty good songs! I eventually ended up getting to write songs for a living! What!? Was this really happening? I don't know how many times I still have to explain to friends that, yes I do write songs for a LIVING. And yes it is a real job! This job led me to writing hundreds of songs that eventually would be cut down to only a small amount for my very first album. After all, my main goal my whole life, has been to be a recording artist and performer. And even that came true when I signed with Atlantic Records back in November of 2009!
In 2010, I began recording in the studio with my dear friend and producer Byron Gallimore. The record that we are working on sounds exactly how I envisioned my first album. I heard Lee Ann Womack say in an article a while back that Byron is a producer that makes albums that the artist wants to make. And that’s exactly what he does! Byron and I sat down in the beginning and I told him that I wanted to make a solid, true country record. But one that still incorporated the influences I’ve had from blues, to soul, and rock n roll. I think we've captured that in this first record and I can’t wait for you all to hear it! Speaking of Lee Ann Womack, I was lucky enough to have her sing on my album, on a song called "Adios Old Friend." I am more than excited to get this album out to all of you. And just as excited to get out there on the road to every bar, club, and if I’m lucky, stadium in the country!
We just shot the music video to my first single "Raymond" and the song goes to radio this summer! Raymond is a song that has been extremely special to me since the day I wrote it and I hope you all enjoy it! I have to thank my wonderful family and friends for always sticking with me and letting me live out this crazy dream of being a musician. I will never forget all of you that have been there, and can't wait to meet all the new faces out there on the road! See you on the road!
